Florida is rooting for Aaron
SPRING HILL — American Idol contestant Aaron Kelly has made his way from humble beginnings to Hollywood.
And as the 17-year-old remains one of six finalists during the popular television show's ninth season, he has a dedicated local following.

Why we love him: Even though he's only 17, he's no stranger to singing or reality TV! He's been performing since he was nine and at eleven, he was a finalist on America's Most Talented Kids. Though he's received many comparisons to season seven's runner-up, David Archuleta, we think this guy is absolutely adorable in his own right and will continue to root him on through the competition.
He talks about...his favorite genre of music: "My parents have always listened to country music and that's what I've been raised around. Any time I get in the car and the radio would be on, it would be on a country music station. And that's pretty much just what I grew up listening to and it's got a lot of meaning in the music. It's a lot of meaningful music."

Did Aaron Kelly check out David Archuleta's previous version of "Long and Winding Road?" Apparently not, and some might contend he should have, just to gain some perspective. "I didn't really go back," says Aaron of his song choice. "I've heard a couple different versions that were sightly different than the original where they slowed it down a lot.... I do agree with Simon, the only thing is, I did not want to change the arrangement because you don't want to [do that] and then have people hate you."

“My mom was like ‘Uh, I think you have something,” said Kelly, who has made it into the top 10 contestants on “American Idol” this season and has yet to be placed in the bottom three up for elimination.
The 16-year-old from Sonestown, Sullivan County, had performed only at town fairs and in elementary schools before auditioning for the FOX reality series.
